Who we are

Wikimedia Community User Group Cyprus is an officially recognized affiliate of the Wikimedia Foundation. We are a grassroots collective of Wikimedians in Cyprus working to make knowledge accessible, diverse, and inclusive. Our members represent all communities across the island, contributing in Greek, Turkish, and English.
We operate as a volunteer-based initiative and engage in both local and international collaborations to promote digital literacy, human rights, and the values of the free knowledge movement.

Our Vision

To cultivate a multilingual, inclusive community of contributors across Cyprus, bridging social, linguistic, and gender divides through the Wikimedia movement.

Our Goals

Promote free knowledge across all communities in Cyprus.

Increase Cypriot content on Wikimedia projects (Wikipedia, Commons, Wikidata, etc.).

Encourage diverse participation, especially from underrepresented groups

Facilitate the representation of women and underrepresented groups in online knowledge.

Foster partnerships with universities, NGOs, and cultural institutions

Partner with universities, libraries, and cultural institutions across the island

Raise awareness about digital rights, AI and the importance of open knowledge

Support educators, students, and activists through trainings and collaborative edit-a-thons.

We are an officially recognized Wikimedia User Group under the Wikimedia Foundation’s global affiliate program. This status allows us to participate in international Wikimedia campaigns, apply for funding, and collaborate with other affiliates worldwide.
